This is Local Government Week in Pennsylvania.
The week is designed to highlight the importance of local government.
Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors Executive Director David Sanko says people’s lives are impacted more by decisions made at the local level, than elsewhere.
“The people who serve in those offices are your neighbors, and they help fix things in your community,” Sanko said. “You can influence their ability to get things done far easier than looking off to Harrisburg or Washington.”
The week also seeks to raise awareness about opportunities for people to get involved in their local government by volunteering to serve on a board or commission. Sanko notes there’s usually less partisan divide at the local level.
