In local high school sports from Saturday:
Football
Grove City defeated Slippery Rock in the District 10 3A Championship 28-20. Saturday’s game, which was held at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on the campus of Slippery Rock University, was also the first round of the PIAA 3A State Playoffs.
Girls’ Soccer
The Mars girls’ soccer team defeated Radnor in double overtime on Saturday in the PIAA 3A State Championship, the final 2-1. Saturday’s championship is the Planets’ third straight state title. The Planets also becomes the first 3A girls’ team in Pennsylvania to win three straight state championships.
Girls’ Volleyball
North Catholic defeated Camp Hill Trinity in the PIAA 2A State Championship, the final 3-0. North Catholic also won the state crown two years ago, and has been in the class 2A Final Four each of the past three years.
North Allegheny won their fifth straight PIAA 4A championship, as they defeated Parkland by a final of 3-1.
