U.S. Senator Bob Casey was busy last week proposing legislation that would support families of deceased miners as well as another bill that would screen U.S. investment in China.
The Relief for Survivors of Miners Act would make it easier for families of former miners who passed away from black lung disease to successfully claim benefits. Casey was joined in this effort by Pennsylvania’s other Senator, John Fetterman, as well as West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.
The Outbound Investment Transparency Act responds to concerns about visibility of investments into national security sectors of countries such as China. Casey first introduced this legislation in 2021 and it was passed as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act by a vote of 91 to 6.
