A local lawmaker is sharing information to help residents avoid scams.
According to Republican State Representative Marci Mustello, the State Police are reporting scams connected to claims that a loved one needs cash to get out of jail.
A caller will use specific names in claiming that a loved one is either in jail or faces the prospect of jail unless payment is left for them to pick up at the address of the person being called.
State Police encourage residents to never place money in a mailbox or on a doorstep for someone to pick up. Also never trust when someone asks for payment using gift cards.
