The need for addiction rehabilitation in our area continues to increase and as a result, a local drug and alcohol treatment center is expanding. Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center Board member Jerry Miller, “Way back whenever the Gaiser Center started 40 some years ago, there was a need. But as you all know, that need has not gone away and if anything, has increased. For example, last year in 2016, there were 74 drug overdose deaths in the Butler area. Already this year, there has been 61. That’s just devastating, that’s an epidemic.”
The Center officially cut the ribbon on a new expansion dedicated for women’s recovery Friday afternoon. The new addition will increase the center’s capacity from 29 to 40 beds as well as double the number of women who can be helped at one time.
The transition for the women from the old facility to the new actually took place August 1st. Since then the women have been enjoying new bedrooms as well as a new living room, dining area, laundry room, bathrooms, and group rooms. According to Executive Director Linda Franiewski the new facility will really make a difference and the women are very grateful.
“It’s really important that we start them on the right path. This is going to be a new future for the women of Butler County and their children and their families. The women wanted me to tell you how much they appreciate what you’re doing for them. They know that it takes all of us and they are very grateful,” Franiewski explained.
The Gaiser Center is a nonprofit that is licensed by the state health department. They offer both inpatient and outpatient services and have been serving the community since 1971.
