A couple of local state senators have been named as chairmen of legislative committees for the upcoming term.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman has reappointed Senator Scott Hutchinson to serve as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee for the upcoming 2021-22 Legislative Session.
Hutchinson has held this position since the beginning of the 2017-18 session and continues to target economic development and job growth as his main legislative priorities. The state tax code and the mix of revenues which fund state government are the main purviews of the Finance Committee. As such, comparisons of the types, provisions, and mixes of taxes with other locations are key components of job competitiveness and business investment.
Corman also reappointed Senator Joe Pittman to serve as Chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee for the 2021-22 Legislative Session.
This committee is responsible for reviewing legislation and resolutions related to a number of subjects dealing with housing and community revitalization. In recent years this committee has focused on helping municipalities address abandoned and blighted properties and returning land to public use as well as addressing veteran homelessness and housing.
