People now have the opportunity to get the COVID-19 vaccine in their homes through VNA/Lutheran Senior Life.
We spoke with Executive Director, Margie Walsh, who explained that they have partnered with the Butler Health System in order to make this happen.
This effort is to administer shots to individuals who cannot get to a vaccination site. Otherwise, if a person is homebound, VNA is able to come to your home and administer a vaccine shot. Walsh stressed that the VNA is not a provider of the vaccine but rather an administrator of the shot through the Butler Health System.
If you’d like to participate, you need to make an appointment. That’s because the VNA will let the hospital know how many shots a week prior to appointments.
When personnel from the VNA picks up the limited number of vaccines, they then have up to 6 hours in that day to get those shots in arms in order to keep the vaccine is viable.
Walsh says they are not taking away any appointments from the Butler Memorial Hospital. This effort is only for individuals who are homebound.
You do not have to be a current patient or client of VNA/Lutheran Senior Life in order to take advantage of this opportunity. It is open to the community.
VNA will stay with the patient for the approximate 15 minutes after the shot is administered.
Individuals do not need a physician’s order to receive the vaccine at your home.
Since VNA is working through Butler Memorial Hospital, they are offering the Pfizer vaccine.
To make an appointment, the VNA’s number is (724) 282-6806.
