A longtime local law enforcement officer announced that he is retiring from his position at Monday night’s Butler Township commissioners meeting.
Police Chief John Hays sent a letter to Township Manager Tom Knights stating that he was ending his time at the department effective June 14th but he will be using vacation and personal days until then.
Hays spent 11 years as Butler Township Chief and his entire professional career of 44 years as a member of the department. Hays’ first day as a patrol officer was August 13, 1979 before rising through the ranks to arrive at his current position as chief.
Township administrators will now begin the open hiring process to find the best candidate to be the next Butler Township Chief of Police.
