Loretta J. Hillwig, 87, of Chicora, went to be with the Lord Friday morning, July 17, 2020 in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Loretta was born in Rattigan, Donegal Twp. on December 23, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Merle S. and Mary G. Graham Rodgers.
She was a graduate of Chicora High School and a long time member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. In her earlier years, she taught CDC classes at St. Eusebius in East Brady and was employed by Bell Telephone Company and as a retail clerk at K-Mart, Bon-Ton, and Montgomery Ward. She enjoyed attending Silver Sneakers at the Butler YMCA and volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Chicora. She also enjoyed attending the Chicora Senior Center. Loretta was a loving grandmother and looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren. Loretta was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed baking, sewing and canning, and was well known for her delicious cinnamon rolls and her lemon and chocolate pies.
Surviving is her husband, Daniel E. Hillwig, whom she married at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Sugarcreek Twp. On June 9, 1951. Also surviving are five children, Patty Wiles and her husband, Chick, of Chicora, David Roger Hillwig and his wife, Cindy, of Karns City, Paul G. Hillwig of Chicora, Carol D. Callihan and her husband, Edward, of Butler, Valorie J. Andreassi and her husband, Christopher, of Butler; eleven grandchildren, Bill Wiles and his wife, Meg, Tracy Boyle and her husband, Mike, Erica Ridley and and her husband, Greg, Tara O’Donnell and her husband, Derek, Samantha Bradley, Alexa Callihan, Matthew Andreassi, Daniel Andreassi, Tony Andreassi, Jon Andreassi and his wife, Kristin, and Carlo Andreassi; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Sheakley of Butler and Ann Hutchinson of Pittsburgh; a brother-in-law, Raymond “Sonny” Hillwig of Sarver, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel E. Hillwig Jr.; two sisters and three brothers, a number of nephews and in-laws.
Private visitation will be held at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora. Memorial contributions may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation at www.myeloma.org.
