Those who need help heating their homes this winter season are encouraged to apply for help today
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP, helps low-income renters and homeowners pay heating bills.
LIHEAP is an effort of the PA Department of Human Services that offers assistance in the form of a cash grant that is sent directly to the utility company or a crisis grant for households in immediate danger of being without heat.
According to DHS Secretary Teresa Miller, over 300,000 Pennsylvania residents took advantage of this program last year and each received between $200 and $1,000 to keep warm through the winter.
Those interested in applying for assistance are asked to long onto the website compass.state.pa.us or apply in person at the local county assistance office.
