A man was flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center after a crash that shut down I-79 for hours last night.
The accident happened just before 8 p.m. in the northbound lane of I-79 in Muddy Creek Township.
State police did not reveal any identities but say the driver of a vehicle in the left lane was looking to merge right in order to get off at the Portersville exit.
However, there was another vehicle in the right lane. That car swerved in order to avoid hitting the first car, which caused it to lose control.
The vehicle then spun around, crossed the exit, went off the road, and hit the embankment. The car rolled over multiple times, leading the man to be ejected from the car.
When crews got on scene the man was unconscious but breathing.
Police shut down I-79 in order to land a medical helicopter on the highway. The man was taken to UPMC Presby.
I-79 remained shut down until midnight as crews worked to clear the scene.
