A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced for multiple offenses- including possessing drug-soaked paper while an inmate in the Butler County Prison.
A federal judge directed 26-year-old Chance Rice to serve nearly five years in jail followed by six years of supervised release. United States Attorney Scott Brady announced the sentencing details on Wednesday.
While being held in the Butler County Jail in July 2018 for multiple gun crimes that occurred in 2015 in Allegheny County, prison staff allegedly found drug-soaked paper during a cell search.
“The deputy warden of the Butler County Prison received information that caused her to arrange for Rice’s cell to be searched. Guards located drug-soaked paper in Rice’s cell,” according to Brady’s Office.
A lab determined the paper contained a substance called 5 Flouro ADB, which is a type of synthetic marijuana.
Rice allegedly admitted in court that he possessed this drug with the intent to distribute to other inmates.
A month later in mid-August of 2018, six Butler County prison workers were sickened after coming into contact with what was determined to be synthetic marijuana in an unrelated incident.
