A local dairy is clearing up some confusion about a perceived milk shortage while other rumors circulate about milk being dumped.
According to information posted to the Marburger Dairy Facebook page, Western PA Fluid Milk Plants are not the reason why some farmers are being advised to dump their milk.
The Marburger plant is bottling product well above normal volume including on nights and weekends to meet demand. Most of the shortages people are seeing in stores are likely as a result of stores not ordering enough or failing to keep coolers stocked quickly enough.
The situation with some farmers being asked to dump milk is because that milk was being sent to plants that produce cheese, yogurt, and ice cream which is not needed as much now because many restaurants and food services are not using or buying as much as they normally would.
Anyone who cannot find milk in stores should call Marburger Dairy to put in an order for pickup.
