Marcia Mitchell Hill, 74 passed on August 21 in Tucson, Arizona.
Marcia Ann Mitchell was born on January 7, 1947 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania to William Vincent Mitchell (d. 2005) and Valerie Joan Mitchell (d. 2012).
A 1964 graduate of Har-Brack High School, Marcia received a bachelor’s degree from Clarion University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974.
On January 23, 1971, Marcia married Charles Richard Hill (d. 1993) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Natrona Heights, PA. Marcia and Charles had one child, Benjamin Mitchell Hill, who was born on January 13, 1976 in Butler, PA.
After beginning her teaching career in the Deer Lakes and Freeport School Districts, Marcia taught in the Butler Area School District for twenty years until her retirement in 1999. Teaching mostly advanced economics, Marcia’s sharp intellect and robust personality inspired hundreds of high school students to pursue their dreams through higher education.
Upon retiring, Marcia moved to Tucson, Arizona. A prolific crafter, Marcia embarked on an active retirement of: needlepoint; sewing; and (fitting for Arizona) beading. On autumnal Sundays, Marcia relaxed in her favorite chair watching the Steelers in the early game and the Cardinals in the afternoon game. What Marcia enjoyed most, however, was spending time with her beloved grandson, Christopher Coddington-Hill
Marcia is survived by her son and his family: Benjamin Hill; Alicia DeWitt; and Christopher Coddington-Hill. Marcia also is survived by two siblings: Carole Fries of Chambersburg, PA and Keith Mitchell, Cranberry, PA.
Reuniting with Charles, Marcia will be entombed at the Calvary Mausoleum in Butler, PA.
Family, friends and former students are invited to celebrate Marcia Hill’s life from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, October 8 at The Chop Shop, Butler PA.
