Margaret V. Stutz

Margaret V. Stutz, 101, of East Butler, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
Born on January 27, 1921, in Aspinwall, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry Steighner and Margaret (Dadowski) Steighner. She married her husband, John A. Stutz on November 27, 1941, and together they raised four children.
Margaret spent her days as a homemaker. You could always find her in the kitchen baking something amazing. You could smell her bread baking from the street, and anyone that passed by knew they could stop in for a slice of warm bread – even passerby’s that happened to walk along the train tracks behind the house. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Every Sunday after church, she would prepare a special meal that everyone looked forward to. Crocheting was one of her favorite hobbies. For years, she would create beautiful afghans, blankets, and especially doilies that she was proud to present as gifts to family and friends. She loved playing bingo and card games with anyone, but especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching old TV shows and movies.
For her entire life, Margaret was a devout Catholic. She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler where she also belonged to the Guild of Christian Mothers. She cherished her family and her faith, the two most important things in her life. Margaret was a kind and caring person with a smile that made everyone feel loved.
She leaves behind an adoring family who will forever cherish her memory. Her children: John H. Stutz of East Butler; Francis (Victoria) Stutz of East Butler; Wanda (Randall) Bandura of Frostburg, MD. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); 2 brothers: Earl (Phyllis) Steighner of Davidson, NC, and Francis (Joan) Steighner of Butler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Stutz who passed on February 9, 1987; her son, Richard J. Stutz; her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Stutz; 4 brothers Harry, Gilbert, Gerald, and Louis Steighner; and 1 sister, Vera Reader.
Friends and family will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 10:00 am, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler. The Rev. Kevin Fazio will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Herman.
