Marilyn F. Reed, 101, a lifelong Foxburg resident, went to be with the Lord late Tuesday morning, September 10, 2024 at Clarion Hospital.
Marilyn was born in Foxburg on July 29, 1923. She was the daughter of the late William and Hannah Tonks Reed.
She was a graduate of St. Petersburg-Richland Twp. High School. Marilyn was a lifelong active member of the Memorial Church of Our Father in Foxburg. She served as the postmaster at the Foxburg Post Office for many years. Marilyn was an avid golfer and member of the Foxburg Country Club. She was a devoted, lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan and, at the urging of her great niece, Kelly Blauser, also became a Penguin fan. Marilyn enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was well-known for her decorative towels, dishcloths, and tissue box covers, which were always on display at the church bazaars. Marilyn absolutely loved children and animals, especially cats. Marilyn was everyone’s favorite babysitter.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, Marilyn “Trink” Benetti, Peggy Bowser, Joyce Tremba (Roger), Patti Barger (Denny), Mike Gardner (Beth), Marsha Bartley, Bob Gardner, Barbara Master, Sandra Fleming, Deanna Hutchison, Linda Hauser (Dave), Gary Horton, Edward Horton, Jim Horton (Patty), Christy Hurrelbrink, Jeff Reed (Robin), Steve Reed, Rick Reed, Tom Reed (Cindy), Vicki Romine (Ralph), Terry Burns (Dawn “Dodi”), and Dick Burns (Edith), as well as a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her nine siblings, Alice, Gertrude, Margaret, Adda, Clara, Gloria, Muriel, William, and Richard.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, from 1-3 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from The Memorial Church of our Father Episcopal in Foxburg, with the Rev. Geoffrey Wild, church vicar, officiating.
