The Miami Marlins defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 last night in Florida, sending the Bucs to their season-high 10th consecutive defeat. The Pirates bullpen allowed the Marlins to build a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller held Miami to one run over seven innings on five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out five, allowing the Bucs to build a 4-1 lead.
Rookie Henry Davis hit his first major league home run in the eighth inning. Ke’Bryan Hayes had two of the Pirates five hits, but the Bucs struck out 15 times in the game.
The Pirates have placed outfielder Bryan Reynolds on the 15-day Injured List. He is dealing with a back issue. The team has recalled reliever Cody Bolton from Indianapolis to take his roster spot.
First baseman Ji-Man Choi has begun a rehab assignment with Altoona. He has been out since mid-April with an Achilles strain.
The Pirates and Marlins play game two of their four-game series tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm.
