Students in the Mars Area School District have announced the results of fundraising efforts to benefit two different worthwhile causes.
First, the Mars Area High School Student Council collected over $1,300 to benefit veterans living at the St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars through a “Cookies for a Cause” fundraiser. This student-organized collection took place at the Mars Farmers Market last summer as well as Mars Applefest in October. Student Council members donated time as guest bakers and salespersons.
Also, the Mars Area Middle School’s Community Service Committee and Friends of Rachel Club raised $2,000 which was donated to the Tree of Life Synagogue. As part of a fundraiser held for about six weeks between November and December, student groups sold bracelets for $2 during lunch periods. Students who purchased a bracelet had an opportunity to add a message of kindness to a display at the school.
