The Mars Area School District has been notified that a high school student has tested positive for COVID-19.
The district did not identify the student but did say that this student is a ninth grader who is also a member of the school’s Junior Varsity Soccer Team. The district also reported that the student was last in school on Friday, September 25th and has been quarantined since.
The district is working closely with officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Health who are conducting contact tracing for anyone who may have come into close contact with the student. The recommended 14 day quarantine period for anyone determined to have been in close contact is this Friday (10/9).
The district will notify students who may have come into close contact with this student and ask them to shift to Live Stream Interactive Instruction for the rest of this week. The JV Soccer Team will not practice or have games until after Friday as well.
Mars Area administrators, including superintendent Dr. Mark Gross, are asking that all Mars families take their child’s temperature once daily to check for fever. Families are also asked to watch for any symptoms and report those symptoms immediately in addition to wearing a mask, social distancing, and follow all proper hygiene procedures.
