The Mars girls volleyball team shutout Beaver 3-0 last night in the PIAA Class 3A semifinals and have reached a state championship match for the first time in school history. Mars will face two-time defending champion and undefeated Pope John Paul II in the title match this Saturday at Cumberland Valley high school in Mechanicsburg at 3:30pm.
Four state volleyball title championship games will be held at Cumberland Valley Saturday. North Allegheny also swept their way into the Class 4A title match last night. The Tigers will meet Spring-Ford for the title following the Mars match. It will be the eighth consecutive year North Allegheny has reached the state championship.
The Mars girls soccer team fell 4-1 to Lower Dauphin in their state semifinal match last night in Altoona. Lower Dauphin scored three times in the opening half. The Planets end their season 20-4 overall.
