The Mars Area School Board and community members are continuing to prepare for an upcoming Middle School renovation project with another update from administrators, architects and designers.
The latest update came Tuesday night and included information about a new student drop-off area, a new food serving area, new restroom facilities, new gym floor, LED lighting and wider lockers. An interior designer presented samples of carpet- as well as blue and gold tile- to reinforce school spirit.
According to Superintendent Dr. Wes Shipley, the curriculum will not change as a result of the redesign but students will be grouped into “houses” or smaller schools within the school meant to foster improved connection and relationship between teachers and students. The renovations are also expected to allow for expanded capacity in the case of future growth.
A large part of the project will be able to be completed over the summer and the rest will take place in phases through the fall. The next public update presentation will take place at an undetermined date in the middle of summer.
