The Mars Area School Board has hired the district’s next varsity head football coach.
Former Pine Richland coach Eric Kasperowicz will be paid just over $9,000 to bring change to the Mars football program. This salary is the predetermined amount set by the district for this position.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Gross was one of four members of a screening committee along with two other Mars administrators and the Athletic Director of Thiel College who was paid as a consultant to help guide the search process.
Following screening of applications and two rounds of interviews, each candidate gave a brief presentation to the committee about how they would bring change to the Mars football program.
Gross said that Kasperowicz was open and candid and the committee was satisfied with his answers as well as his history as a coach. Kasperowicz was let go as the head coach of Pine Richland after school administrators accused him of creating a culture that included hazing. He vehemently denied those charges.
Current Mars Athletic Director Scott Heinauer coached the district’s football team for the past 30 years. Heinauer will remain as Director of Athletics and Activities.
