The Mayor of Mars and a BC3 administrator who worked to increase scholarships are among the distinguished alumni to be recognized this year by Butler County Community College.
Gregg Hartung graduated from Mars Area High School and earned an associate degree from BC3 in 1980 before spending 37 years in radio broadcasting. He was elected Mayor of Mars for the first time in 2014.
Michelle Edinger graduated from Butler Senior High School before attending and graduating from BC3 in 1984. She worked for the Butler County Area Agency on Aging before transitioning to the BC3 Foundation in 2004. Before retiring in 2020, Edinger increased the number of named scholarships at the college from 52 to 138.
The distinguished alumni award has honored a total of 54 graduates from BC3 since 2004 to achieve significant levels of success and who have a commitment to community service.
The awards will be presented during a dinner on Saturday which will also award $280,000 in scholarships to 148 recipients.
