The Mars Area School Board and community members received a sneak peak of what the future could look like for the district’s Middle School.
A representative from the IKM Architects firm presented drawings and plans for the partially new and partially renovated facility at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
The plans call for a new two-story Academic Learning Tower to be constructed next to the existing Mars Middle School, accompanied by the renovation of half the existing structure and the demolition of the other half. A virtual tour revealed four learning commons, or community areas, in the new tower structure with a goal of multipurpose functionality and making the most use out of every space available.
The project is currently in the design development stage which will be followed by putting the construction documents out to bid in January of 2019, and beginning a 17-month construction process in May of 2019.
