The Mars Area School District is making changes to police coverage at their facilities this fall.
According to a recent statement from Superintendent Dr. Mark Gross, Mars is moving from the current hybrid School Police Force model that includes Municipal Police Officers employed by Adams Township to an internal one that is comprised only of district-employed officers.
Gross believes that this new arrangement will “improve internal communication and organization through a unified chain of command and clearer accountability.” Also, the same amount of coverage by experienced, armed School Police Officers at all of school buildings will continue with the same coverage at extracurricular programs and activities.
Part of this change involves the hiring of Jeffrey James to the new position of Director of Safety and Security at an annual salary of $145,000.
