A couple of days worth of New Year celebrations for the planet Mars are planned to begin Thursday in the borough of Mars.
For the third time, the town of Mars decided to join together with NASA and ring in the planet Mars’ New Year. The Mars New Year Celebration is a collaboration with Mars Borough and NASA divisions from across the country, inspired by exploration, innovation and celebration.
The festival coincides with the planet Mars’ New Year, which occurs every 687 days.
A VIP gathering and “Blast-Off Dinner” will kick off the celebrations on Thursday. On Friday, local students will take place in a “Breakfast With NASA” event at the Regional Learning Alliance Center.
“NASA’s involvement is such an honor and integral part of what we’re trying to accomplish. We want our students and community to be inspired by the possibilities of space,” Missy Gralish, communications chairperson for the event, said. “The Mars New Year celebration brings two planets together as we celebrate the new frontier of the planet Mars right in Mars, PA in the heart of Butler County.”
Festivities will continue throughout the year with “Mars Exploration Celebration Days” planned for Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2.
