The Mars Area School Board has selected a local resident to fill the rest of the term of a member who recently resigned.
At their meeting Tuesday night, school board members voted unanimously to choose Matthew Duff to take over for Sallie Wick who is moving out of the district.
A couple of special public meetings were held in January in order to interview 14 candidates who expressed interest in the spot of Nicole Thurner when she stepped down. Dan Long was chosen for that position but Valencia resident Duff with a background in fraud investigation was among those considered.
When Wick announced her intentions, the board revisited the remaining candidates. Duff will be sworn in next month and his term expires in December of 2025.
