State High School Playoffs:
–The Mars Girls Soccer team have reached the state championship game following a 5-1 victory over Archbiship Wood Tuesday in the PIAA semifinals. Taylor Hamlett netted a hat-trick for the Planets, who improved to 21-0-1 this season. Aly Cooper and Gracie Dunaway scored the other Mars goals. The Planets will meet Villa Joseph Marie Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium in the title game beginning at 4pm.
The North Catholic-Erie Villa Maria Girls 2A semifinal was postponed until this evening at Slippery Rock high school. The match begins at 5:30pm.
The North Catholic Girls Volleyball team will play for the PIAA 2A championship for the first time in school history after defeating WPIAL champion Freeport 3-0 last night. North Catholic will meet District-4 champion North Penn Liberty Saturday at 1pm at Cumberland Valley high school.
The WPIAL champion Knoch Girls Volleyball team fell 3-1 last night to District-3 champion Palmyra at Altoona high school in the 3A semifinals. The Knights won the opening game 27-25, but dropped the next three sets 25-23, 25-18 and 25-9 scores.
North Allegheny won their 4A semifinal match 3-0 over Landisville Hempfield. The Tigers get Bishop Shanahan Saturday at 6pm at Cumberland Valley.
