A group of students from Mars are living up to their district’s name after winning a contest to help design a NASA patch.
The challenge was sponsored by the Phipps Conservatory and asked participants to design a NASA mission patch commemorating an experiment to grow tomatoes on the International Space Station.
High School juniors Cecelia Crowley, Addison Girdwood, Annelie Gustafsson, and Mira Ramanthan teamed up for the research and design of a rocket ship inside a tomato.

Mars Area High School juniors Addison Girdwood, Mira Ramanathan, Annelie Gustafsson and Cecelia Crowley earned first place for their entry in the Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens Fairchild Challenge.
The entry will now be submitted into a national contest where NASA will select the overall winner.
