A local teacher has been honored with an out of this world designation.
At the Mars New Year “Blast-Off Dinner” last week, Mars Area Elementary School STEAM teacher Colleen Hinrichsen was named the 2023 Martian of the Year.
Hinrichsen joined the Mars faculty in 2005 as a first grade teacher before moving to a third grade position and then transitioning to a STEAM teacher at the Mars Centennial School.
In 2018, Hinrichsen attended Space Camp for Educators in Alabama and has helped to connect students with engineers at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to learn more about space exploration.
