Thursday is Children’s Grief Awareness Day and a local school district is raising awareness of the occasion.
Students, teachers, and staff members in the Mars Area School District are being asked to wear the color blue to show support for students dealing with loss.
Mars Area Elementary students have been making videos about bullying prevention in their STEAM classes that will be presented to the entire school on Thursday. Young students are making a paper chain with encouraging messages while others make paper butterflies for a memory wall. A Caring Place poster contest is also planned.
The purpose of this day is to bring attention to the unique needs of children who are grieving because of the loss of a parent, sibling, or close family member. For more information on this observance, visit the Children’s Grief Awareness Day website.
