Martha R. Oesterling, 79, of Butler passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at her residence.
Born November 15, 1937 in Mercer, she was a daughter of the late Leonard H. and Sophie S. Maykowski Ringer.
She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Mercer High School. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Jameson School of Nursing in New Castle where she earned her diploma as a Registered Nurse. She went on to continue her education at Penn State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She worked in various fields of Nursing. She worked at Butler Memorial Hospital in the Pediatric Unit and Child Psychology, VNA, Personal Touch Home Health and a substitute Nurse for Butler School District.
She was a Director of the Girl Scouts and an avid seamstress who made many dance costumes over the years. She enjoyed working on crafts, ceramics and painting. She also enjoyed camping at the family camp in Cooks Forest, horseback and quad riding, the outdoors in general. She had Registered Collies she enjoyed showing and traveling on bus tours. Playing Mrs. Claus for many events. She attended bible study with her dear friend, Barb Karenbauer, she would pray daily for her many family and friends. Most of all, she was all about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: Terry (Hank) Leyland, Michael (Deb) Oesterling, Martin Oesterling, all of Butler, and Tricia (Oscar) Oesterling-Merlo of New York City.
5 grandchildren: Trevor (Christy) Leyland of Butler, Levi Leyland of Slippery Rock, Heather, Benjamin, Joseph Oesterling and a grandson-in-law, Josh Greynold and a granddaughter-in-law, Kearsten Ihlenfeld, all of Butler.
5 great-grandchildren: Braylon Littlejohn, Isla, Willem, Eloise and Cora Leyland.
A brother, Hollis Filson of FL.
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Albert J. Oesterling who passed away February 28, 2003. Two grandchildren, Emily Leyland and Calvin Littlejohn. A brother, Bill Ringer and a sister, Peg Horvath.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler, PA 16001 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Monday at 1:00 pm from St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean St. Butler. Interment will be private.
