Mary Alice Parsons, 97, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Butler, Pa., passed away on May 6 at 9:55 p.m. at Tidewell Hospice at Venice Regional Bayfront Health.
She was born November 13, 1923, in Butler to the late Albert L. McCandless and Floy (McCandless) McCandless.
Mary Alice was a member of First Baptist Church in Butler and South Venice Baptist Church in Venice. She worked as a registered nurse for 32 years at Butler Memorial Hospital. She was a graduate of the Butler Memorial Hospital nursing program and a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni, and she was active in her church.
Mary Alice is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Richard) Gadzia of Venice, Fla., Kathy Martynuska of Grove City, Pa., and Patti (Patricia) Beil of Lisbon, Ohio; four grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Parsons, whom she married on Sept. 30, 1944 and who passed away on June 15, 2001, and also by four sisters.
Mary Alice enjoyed family gatherings, knitting and crocheting, card club and other games, baking, Bible study, church activities, and long walks.
Friends will be received at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North St., Butler, Pa. on Friday, May 14, 2021, 11:00 am until 1:00 pm with a funeral service immediately following. Pastor David Maitland of First Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will take place at Butler County Memorial Park.
