Mary R. Sarvey, 89, of Butler, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
She was born June 5, 1928 in Butler, the daughter of the late Clayton Otis and Lena (Snyder) Shields.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for several years and had belonged to the Berean Class. She was an extraordinary homemaker who loved serving her church and community. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were her pride and joy.
Surviving are her husband, Walter L. Sarvey of Butler whom she married August 31, 1950; her son, Larry (Cathy) Sarvey of Butler; 3 grandchildren, Marybeth (Jeff) Harris of Pittsburgh, Justin (Jodi) Sarvey of Zelienople and Becca (Tyler) Allie of Johnson City, TN; her great grandchildren, Brooke and Payson Sarvey & Eli Harris; 2 sisters, Lena (Earl) Sarvey of Renfrew and Joann Filges of Chicora.
She was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Friday January 5, 2018 from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at11:30 AM with her pastor, David Maitland officiating.
Private interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
