A longtime local business owner and entrepreneur has died.
David McKivigan passed away last Friday at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
McKivigan, who was also known as “Chief” to his friends, was a Butler native who started in the automotive industry in the late 1950s.
He would open Butler Tire on Route 8 in 1977. It remains in the same location to this day.
He also opened a number of local restaurants, including Mac’s Café, the Deli Crosing, Anna Marie’s Winery and the Butler Hot Dog Shoppe on Monroe Street.
McKivigan was also a former boxer who stayed active in the boxing community by watching and supporting events.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home this Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.
McKivigan was 85.
