It was a big surprise for the school nurse at McQuistion Elementary School Thursday morning.
The Butler Band was there to greet students, teachers, and most importantly school nurse Michele Harold. She was met with a big surprise when she learned that she won the LifeChanger of the Year Award.
The National Life Group Foundation sponsors the national award that recognizes educators and district employees who make a difference.
Harold said the award means a lot.
“It feels wonderful. School nurses are usually in the background and I’m glad we’re getting recognized now,” Harold said. “Maybe this will help out with some of the needs that we have.”
Harold also said that the pandemic has made a tough job even more difficult.
“It has been very challenging, but you do the best that you can do with what you have,” Herold said. “Butler’s done a great job. I’ve had a lot of support from administration and staff. They’ve been great to work with.”
Harold added that she knew she was nominated for the award, but had thought it was going to somebody else.
“I thought this assembly was for the band today. I had no idea,” Harold said.
Harold won a $2,500 cash prize and another $2,500 will be donated to McQuistion.
