Unleaded 88 Gas at Sheetz will be $1.99 for Thanksgiving week but a local mechanic is urging drivers to check their vehicles before using it.
The big difference between unleaded 87 and 88 is the amount of ethanol in the gas, according to Mel Wilbert, a mechanic with Bessemer Ave Automotive Rehab. He says a higher percentage of ethanol in gas will burn faster and could damage a vehicle’s engine.
“It can destroy your fuel pump, internal engine parts, and everything if it’s not meant to run on that gas,” Wilbert said.
You can find a sticker that says if a vehicle takes Unleaded 88 under the hood of the car with the title vehicle emissions control information.
The Sheetz promotion will end November 27 at 11:59 p.m.
