Melanie S. Miranda, 82, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, after a brief illness. She was visiting her daughter in Massachusetts at the time. Melanie died peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
She was born in San Carlos, Pangasinan, Philippines on October 22, 1940, a daughter of the late Arturo Soriano and Martina (Untalan) Soriano.
Melanie graduated from Far Eastern University in the Philippines and then the Lenape School of Nursing. She worked as a LPN for the Butler VA Medical Center and also St. John’s Specialty Care in Mars.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, where she was active in the Womens Guild.
Surviving are her children: Jay (Tina) Miranda, Miriam “Joy” (Scott) Albert, Maricar (Jim) Beck and Marilou (Joe) LeVier.
Grandchildren: Anthony, Alexander, Angela (Josh), Alexandra, Nathaniel, Dante, Ryan, Emilee, Jake, Mateo and Luka.
Siblings: Josie (Anthony) DeJesus, Jun (Menchu) Soriano and Butch (Sylvia) Soriano.
A number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cesar P. Miranda, MD, whom she married December 19, 1964, he passed away June 9, 2023; her daughter, Marie Therese Miranda, who passed away February 13, 2023; also her sister, Emilie (Charlie) Cabuay.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10:00 am, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean in Butler. The Rev. John Baver to officiate.
