Melva Ann Marshall, 92, of Penn Township, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born October 3, 1929, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Roy B. Austin and Margaret A. (Dornin) Austin.
Melva was a graduate of Perry High School and went on to take courses in library science and secretarial studies at Butler County Community College. She worked as a secretary of Penn Twp. Elementary School from 1966 until her retirement in 1997. Melva was loved by the students and would still receive Christmas Cards from some of them all these years later. An extremely active woman in the community, Melva was past president of both the Junior and Senior Penn Twp. Women’s Club, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and was involved with the Soroptimists and with the PTA while her children were growing up. She was an avid reader and very fond of authors Patterson, Baldacci and Connelly. Melva enjoyed playing bridge weekly with various neighborhood bridge clubs, knitting and cooking. Above all else, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved her animals.
Melva is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Norante of Penn Township, PA; her son, Charles C. Marshall and his wife, Janice of Pittsford, NY; four grandchildren, Nicholas Marshall Norante, Adam Lanni Marshall, Kim Schulwitz, and Jennifer Romano; 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew Schulwitz and Emelia Grace Romano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Marshall, whom she married on June 27, 1953, and who passed away on November 27, 2011; and her 2 sisters, June Mullen, and Margaret Rose Walter.
All are invited to attend a visitation for Melva on Monday, August 1, 2022, from 2:00PM – 4:00PM and 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 10:00AM at Holy Sepulcher Parish, 1304 E. Cruikshank Rd., Butler, PA 16002, with Father Charles Bober, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Melva’s honor to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Rd., Renfrew, PA 16053.
