The New York Mets came back from a 6-0 first inning deficit to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 Sunday at PNC Park. The victory helped the Mets avoid a Pirates series sweep. Rich Rodriguez took the loss, allowing a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Pirates first inning featured a base-clearing hit by shortstop Kevin Newman that ended with Mets manager Luis Rojas being ejected from the game. Rojas will likely face a suspension after bumping the home plate umpire during the argument. The Mets believed the ball, which barely made its way from home plate, was foul.
The Bucs begin a road trip in Arizona tonight against the Diamondbacks. First pitch is 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR is 9:15pm.
The game Sunday saw the arrival of the Pirates number one draft pick in the 2021 MLB draft Henry Davis, who arrived to sign his contract. He will report to Bradenton, Florida this week to begin workouts.
