Michael “Mike” Howryla, 93, formerly of Butler, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024 at Passavant Retirement Health Center Newhaven Court in Zelienople.
Mike’s death occurred exactly five years to the day that his beloved wife, Arlene Fogel Howryla, passed.
Born April 18, 1931, in Butler, he was a son of the late Harry and Bessie Benza Howryla.
Mike was employed for 36 years in the Maintenance Department of Butler Armco.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
He also belonged to American Legion Post 778 and VFW Post 249.
He is survived by one son, Richard M. Howryla and his wife, Carol, of Butler; one daughter, Joyce Sheakley and her husband, Baxter, of Butler; one daughter-in-law, Rosemary Howryla, of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Derrick Howryla and his wife, Katherine, Emily Gumpp and her husband, Lee, Lisa McCloskey and her husband, Pat, Jessica Kauffman and her husband, Mike, Megan English and her husband, Jordan, and Mary Lee Reaume and her husband, Gabe; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene J. Fogel Howryla, whom he married April 23, 1955, and who passed away Nov. 24, 2019; one son, Paul D. Howryla; one granddaughter, Lynette Messick; four brothers; and two sisters.
There will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler, with Rev. John J. Baver officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded at the church by American Legion Post 778, VFW Post 249, and VFW Post 499.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler.
