Middlesex Township approved a motion at their board of supervisor meeting last night to hire a Chief of Police.
According to a township official, the township has not had a chief of Police since the mid-2000s but due to changes in policing they believe it would now be appropriate to hire a new chief.
Currently, the township has four full-time officers and one part-time officer that provide 24/7 coverage. Administrative duties are handled by one officer and the township manager.
A new police chief would take on these responsibilities going forward.
There is no time table or salary amount for a new police chief to be hired but the township expects a chief to be hired in the near future.
The Township is also looking to hire additional officers for their day-to-day coverage.
