A state grant recently awarded to the Midwestern Intermediate Unit 4 will allow local students to have a better connection with teachers and classmates.
According to State Representative Aaron Bernstine, MIU 4 has been awarded over $18,000 as a Keystone Telepresence Education Grant from the PA Department of Education. Our local intermediate unit is one of 14 organizations to receive such a grant.
This grant will be used to purchase audio and video equipment that IU member school districts can borrow and place in the homes of students who are recovering from accidents or medical procedures or experiencing serious illness. The students will then be able to participate in educational activities in real time.
These funds will also be used to train personnel how to use the equipment. Funding for the Keystone Telepresence Education Grant program comes from the Department of Education’s Special Education state appropriation.
