Major League Baseball has announced a crackdown on pitchers using illegal substances to doctor baseballs. Each team was provided the new policy this week – with pitchers found using a banned substance being ejected and immediately suspended 10 games. The policy officially begins Monday.
Former Pirate pitcher Tyler Glasnow may be out for the rest of this season after he was diagnosed with a partial ligament tear in his pitching elbow. The Rays have the best record in the major league’s and lead the American League East. Glasnow is 5-2 this season with 122 strikeouts in just 88 innings. He has a 2.66 ERA.
Glasnow has stated this week that he blames the rule change for his injury.
