Major League Baseball Playoffs:
–Only the New York Yankees were able to close out a series Monday. The Yankees defeated Minnesota 5-1 last night to sweep their best-of-five series. New York will now await the winner of the Houston-Tampa Bay series. The Rays defeated Houston 10-3 to cut their deficit to 2-1. Tampa Bay hit four home runs in the game, and 35-year old Charlie Morton allowed just one run on three hits over five innings. He struck out nine. Morton is now 4-0 with an 0.95 ERA in four career elimination starts.
Tampa Bay will host Houston in Game Four of their series tonight at 7:07pm.
–The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-4 in 10-innings to send their series to a deciding Game Five in Atlanta. Catcher Yadier Molina drove in the game-winning run in the 10th inning, after driving in the game-tying run in the eighth inning.
–The Washington Nationals forced a Game Five with the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-1 victory behind the pitching of Max Scherzer, who allowed one run on four hits over seven innings. The series is even and will head back to Los Angeles.
Both National League Divisional Series Game Five’s will be played Wednesday.
