The Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 last night to complete a three-game series sweep of their American League Division Series. The Rangers have moved on to the A.L. Championship Series for the first time since 2011. They scored 21 runs in the three-game sweep.
The American League East champion Orioles, who won 101 games during the regular season, were the only team in baseball to not get swept in a series during the regular season. They became the second team in MLB history to go a non-shortened regular season without being swept and then get swept in a post-season series. The 1998 San Diego Padres were swept by the New York Yankees in the World Series. Baltimore has now lost eight playoff games in a row over the past 10 seasons.
The Houston Astros defeated the Minnesota Twins 9-1 to take a 2-1 series lead. The defending World Series champions are one win away from a seventh consecutive American League Championship Series appearance. Game four will be played today beginning at 2:07pm in Minnesota.
