Major League Baseball released the schedule for its coronavirus-shortened season last night. The first two games will be played Thursday, July 23rd, beginning with match-ups between the World Series champion Washington Nationals and the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers against the San Francisco Giants. There will then be 14 games the next day. Games will be played without fans.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will open their season in St. Louis with a three-game series with the Cardinals. The Bucs will have their home opener Monday, July 27th – when they begin a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Pirates will play in a schedule featuring the Cardinals, Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and White Sox. Their final regular-season game is set for Sunday, September 27th.
The Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros have called off workouts due to delayed coronavirus testing.
