As many high schools prepare for prom season, some Butler County school districts are holding “mock accidents” to give students an up-close-and-personal look at the potential effects of drinking and driving.
Juniors and seniors at Mars Area High School took part in the mock accident assembly Tuesday morning in the school’s auditorium parking lot. School officials say the assembly was designed to resemble a real accident in every aspect to demonstrate the serious consequences of drinking and driving, including a talk about the legal aspect of an accident, from dealing with a dui defense attorney to court and possible jail time. Drink-driving accidents happen to be very common all over the country, which is why awareness is being raised to the issue to ensure that people are doing the utmost to prevent any more from occurring. Legal professionals such as Attorney Bert Louthian are involved in many car accident cases, and if you are ever on the receiving end of a drink-driving accident, you may want to turn to somebody like that for legal support.
Local firefighters, police, the Butler County Coroner, Life Flight and EMS workers were all involved in the accident aftermath.
A similar mock crash event is planned for Wednesday at 9 a.m. on the campus of Seneca Valley Senior High School in Jackson Township.
