Visitors are welcome to an event later this week at a local state park that will focus on a unique and vocal bird.
On Thursday, Moraine State Park will host a Timberdoodle Flutter from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Pavilion #7 at the McDanel’s Launch Area on the North Shore.
During the event, participants will learn more about the Timberdoodle, which is also known as a woodcock, night partridge, big-eye, bogsucker, and mudsnipe. A biologist with the Wildlife Management Institute will discuss the habitat creation work that is occurring at Moraine.
Following the presentation, the park naturalists and local members of the Audubon Society bird chapter will lead a short hike in search of Timberdoodles who may even be performing their spring mating ritual.
Visitors are advised to wear warm clothing and field footwear as well as bring binoculars. Pre-registration is required through the DCNR Calendar of Events website.
