Visitors are welcome to an event later this week at a local state park that will focus on a unique bird.
On Thursday, Moraine State Park will host a Woodcock Walk from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Pavilion #7 at the McDanel’s Launch Area on the North Shore.
During the event, participants will learn more about the American Woodcock, which is also known as a timberdoodle, night partridge, big-eye, bogsucker, and mudsnipe. A guest speaker will also discuss the habitat creation work that is occurring at Moraine.
Following the presentation, the park naturalists and local members of the Audubon Society bird chapter will lead a short hike in search of Woodcocks who may even be performing their spring mating ritual.
Registration is required for this event, and can be made by calling the Park Office at 724-368-8811.
